Daniel Silva: A Rising Star in Mathematics

Daniel Silva

Daniel Silva, a senior from Clifton, NJ, is an exceptional student whose passion for mathematics has propelled him to the top of his class. From his first days in Algebra 1 Honors as a freshman to excelling in AP Calculus AB as a senior, Daniel has demonstrated maturity, perseverance, and a genuine love for learning.

“Daniel stood out to me right away,” shares his teacher, Julia Bemke. “He’s incredibly diligent and intentional with his work. His attention to detail, especially in calculus notation, is remarkable—his notebook is a model of exemplary student work. He doesn’t just rely on natural talent; he invests hours to thoroughly understand complex topics.”

Daniel’s curiosity extends beyond the classroom. He frequently seeks insight into his teacher’s experiences studying advanced mathematics, showing a keen interest in what lies ahead in his academic journey. His respectfulness, responsibility, and professional demeanor make him a standout among his peers.

Even his peers and other teachers recognize Daniel’s talents. Ms. Bemke mentions that “the other AP Calculus teacher was disappointed not to have him in class this year.” Daniel’s commitment to his studies and his collaborative spirit in helping others make him a true leader in the classroom.

Beyond his academic achievements, Daniel’s journey has been shaped by a lifelong battle with eczema, a chronic skin condition causing physical and emotional pain. The challenges he faced taught him empathy, resilience, and the ability to see beyond others’ imperfections. “Eczema showed me that everyone has hidden struggles, and it’s important to treat everyone with kindness and respect,” Daniel says. This perspective has fueled his determination to overcome obstacles and embrace his strengths, particularly his love for math.

Daniel’s curiosity and perseverance make him a true leader. Math Medic Foundation (MMF) has selected 5 deserving students to help send to college! The Foundation received many applications and these 5 stood out for their determination, work ethic, and desire to make an impact on the world. These students will pursue mathematics and help balance the scales in a field that is still largely homogeneous. But they need our help - each of their families has experienced hardship and will not be able to afford college without taking on substantial student loans. We at MMF have committed a base scholarship of $2,000 to each student, but we want to do more. Here is where you come in!

We’re going to split all proceeds from this campaign equally among these 5 students! If we raise $10,000, their scholarship will increase from $2,000 to $4,000 each. If we raise $20,000, their scholarship will increase to $6,000, and so on. Help us give these students a truly life-altering award!

Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Component:  You also have the option to fundraise by sending a unique link to your friends and family. Fundraisers who raise $150 OR MORE from now until Giving Tuesday (12/3/24) will receive a 10 oz stackable YETI mug. *Gifts will be sent out in January 2025*
