Scholarships and Grants

The Math Medic Foundation offers student scholarships and grants for teachers and schools working towards improving math education outcomes.

Student scholarships

Scholarships: Fund Your Future Scholarship & Kent County Fund Your Future Scholarship

Note: These scholarships are for students pursuing studies and/or careers in mathematics or math-based sciences. Examples include math education, engineering, and finance. Example of pursuits that won't be considered include pre-medical, pre-law, and business.

Eligibility requirements: High school seniors who will be pursuing a college degree or training in mathematics or a mathematics-related field are eligible to apply. Kent County Fund Your Future scholarship applicants must be residents of Kent County, Michigan. Preference will be given to low-income and/or racial and ethnic minority students.

Scholarship amount: $2,000+

Scholarship: Paul Myers Scholarship for Data Science (Spring Only)

Note: This scholarship is for students pursuing studies and/or careers in data science. Other pursuits will not be considered. 

Eligibility requirements: High school seniors who will be pursuing a college degree or training in data science are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to low-income and/or racial and ethnic minority students.

Scholarship amount: $4,000

Deadline and award date for all scholarships: October 11, 2024. Applicants will be notified of decisions by November 1, 2024.

1. Please tell us your story. What has your learning experience been like in school up to this point? What challenges, socially and/or academically, have you faced in this journey? How did you develop an interest in mathematics?

2. Please describe your future plans for college and beyond. Be sure to include any connections to mathematics or math-related content and careers.

3. Please explain how being awarded this scholarship will help you achieve your future plans. Be as specific as possible.

Teacher grants

The Math Medic Foundation offers grants for professional development to promote the professional and personal growth of educators and excellence in mathematics education.

Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be currently working with elementary or secondary students as a classroom teacher. Preference will be given to teachers that serve low-income or racial and ethnic minority students.

Note: Certain grant funds are available specifically for teachers in Kent County, Michigan. Applicants will be asked to indicate eligibility for these funds.

Deadline and award date: October 11, 2024. Applicants will be notified of decisions by November 1, 2024.

Grant amount: Varies

Please prepare your responses to the following questions before starting the application:

1. Please tell us your story. What has your teaching experience been like up to this point? How does your current role relate to mathematics?

2. Please describe the professional development you are hoping to receive if awarded this grant. How would receiving this PD help you improve your practice? Be sure to include any connections to mathematics.

3. Please estimate the cost of this professional development experience and what your funding gap currently is. Be sure to estimate travel costs, if applicable, substitute teacher costs, if applicable, etc.

School grants

The Math Medic Foundation offers financial assistance to public, private, parochial and charter schools, in the form of funding for professional development for math teachers or resources aimed at supporting teachers and students in the math classroom.

Eligibility requirements: Schools must be using funds to improve math outcomes for students. Preference will be given to schools that serve low-income or racial and ethnic minority students.

Note: Certain grant funds are available specifically for schools in Kent County, Michigan. Applicants will be asked to indicate eligibility for these funds.

Deadline and award date: October 11, 2024. Applicants will be notified of decisions by November 1, 2024.

Grant amount: Varies
